Focus Humanitarian Assistance Australia (FHAA) is committed to the highest standards of legal, ethical and professional conduct in accordance with Australian laws and regulatory requirements, including obligations under the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) framework, the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth), and other applicable Commonwealth and State legislation.
To uphold integrity, accountability and public trust, FHAA maintains a suite of governance and ethics policies that guide the conduct of its Board, staff, volunteers, contractors and partners, and ensure responsible stewardship of funds and resources.
Donations Refund Policy – Summary
Focus Humanitarian Assistance Australia (FHAA) is sincerely appreciative of the generosity of our donors. We are committed to ensuring that all donations are managed responsibly, transparently and in accordance with Australian laws and accounting standards. This policy outlines the circumstances in which FHAA will consider refunding a donation. When FHAA Will Consider a Refund, FHAA may consider issuing a refund in the following circumstances:
Donation Processing Error (within 30 days):
Where an error has been made in processing a paper or online donation (e.g. incorrect amount or duplicate transaction), provided the request is made within 30 days of the donation processing date.
Administrative Error by FHAA (within 90 days):
Where there is evidence of an error made by FHAA, and the request is received within 90 days of the donation processing date.
Fraudulent Transaction:
Where a donation has been made fraudulently (e.g. unauthorised use of a credit card), subject to appropriate verification.
Exceptional Circumstances:
In limited and exceptional situations, including demonstrated vulnerability or hardship, FHAA may assess refund requests on a case-by-case basis.
Time Limit
Refund requests made more than 90 days after the donation processing date will not be approved under any circumstances. This ensures compliance with Australian financial reporting standards, audit requirements, and regulatory obligations, including those applicable under the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) framework.
Code of Conduct
Establishes the standards of behaviour expected of all directors, staff, contractors and volunteers, promoting professionalism, respect, integrity and compliance with Australian law.
Safeguarding Policy
Outlines FHAA’s commitment to preventing harm, abuse, exploitation and misconduct in all programs and operations, and ensuring safe and respectful environments for all individuals and communities engaged in or impacted by our work.
Conflict of Interest Policy
Requires the disclosure, assessment and appropriate management of actual, perceived or potential conflicts of interest to ensure decisions are made objectively and in the best interests of the organisation.
Gifts, Benefits and Hospitality Policy
Provides guidance on the giving and receiving of gifts, benefits and hospitality to maintain integrity, avoid undue influence, and protect the organisation’s reputation and public trust.
Financial Integrity and Anti-Corruption Policy
Sets out controls and responsibilities to prevent fraud, corruption and financial misconduct, ensuring transparent and accountable management of funds in line with Australian regulatory standards.
Whistleblower (Protected Disclosure) Policy
Encourages reporting of unlawful, unethical or improper conduct in accordance with Australian whistleblower protections, and ensures reports are handled confidentially and without retaliation.
Complaints Handling Policy
Details how FHAA receives, manages and resolves complaints from stakeholders, partners, supporters and the public in a fair, transparent and timely manner.

Environmental Responsibility Policy
Outlines FHAA’s approach to minimising environmental impact and promoting sustainable practices across its operations and activities.
Transparency and Accountability Statement
Commits FHAA to open reporting, responsible governance and clear communication regarding its activities, finances and outcomes, in line with ACNC reporting requirements and best practice standards.
Non-Development Activity Statement
Ensures clear separation and accurate representation of humanitarian, development and any non-development activities in compliance with regulatory and funding obligations.
Modern Slavery Statement
Affirms FHAA’s zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery and commitment to compliance with the Modern Slavery Act 2018 (Cth), including proactive steps to identify and mitigate risks within operations and supply chains.
